Gastro-Oesophageal Reflux

This is condition where the junction between the oesophagus and the stomach is weak leading to the regurgitation of food. Most babies have some degree of reflux which improves as they grow up. If babies need treatment, this is easily achieved with milk thickeners or anti reflux medication. Children with cerebral palsy and other developmental problems, often have severe reflux requiring surgery. It is very unusual for otherwise completely healthy children with reflux to require surgical intervention.
